Egyptian Dairy Preps for Growth Through IBM Power Systems Running SAP, DB2, AIX, PowerVM 
An Egyptian dairy and juice manufacturer and distributor, Juhayna Food Industries, is investing $1.15 million into building a smarter computing infrastructure provided by IBM. This move is designed to improve business flexibility and efficiency as the organization ramps up for growth in the years ahead, IBM reports.

IBM is upgrading Juhayna’s IT infrastructure to support the SAP ERP and CRM applications that it uses for Finance, Personnel Management, Materials Management, Production Planning, Quality Management, and Sales & Distribution. Juhayna will use IBM DB2 database software running on IBM Power Systems with AIX and IBM XIV Storage System in a fully virtualized environment using IBM PowerVM. The new IT infrastructure is designed to let Juhayna enhance customer service and ensure business continuity with a more reliable computing platform.
Help/Systems Expands Message Info, Adds WebSphere Monitoring to Robot/CONSOLE 
Help/Systems, a solution provider of automated operations, security, and business intelligence software for IBM Power Systems running IBM i, updates its Robot/CONSOLE message management solution with release 5. Robot/CONSOLE automates IBM i message management, resource monitoring, and system log monitoring. It monitors system console messages, subsystems, devices, and queues, and critical system logs and responds to, redirects, or suppresses them automatically according to the user’s preferences. The tool also creates an audit trail for SOX audits, Service Level Agreements, and general system management.
The VAR Guy, IBM PureFlex and POWER IT Pro Down in San Antonio 
One of our sister publications, The VAR Guy, covers activity in the reseller channels. So why here on POWER IT Pro . . . and why now? The VAR Guy has a couple of posts on IBM PureSystems, as well as a bit more detail that came out of the Avnet Technology Solutions conference in San Antonio this week. Avnet is a very large distributor of IT solutions, and the company has also been offering training courses on IBM's PureSystems, too.
IBM's PureSystems Ramping Up 
IBM has released some additional detail about its PureSystems sales efforts, along side highlighting a few early adopters in growth markets. The biggest element of PureSystems is that more than 700 IBM Business Partners have adopted it to resell, service, install, integrate, or provide applications for it. In addition, 1,300 have completed IBM training on PureSystems. 

And what about application solutions? IBM boasts that there are already 160-plus solutions and "Patterns of Expertise" from IBM and Business Partners across 20 industries. This is in addition to the tens of thousands of existing ISV applications that already run on the PureSystems operating environments of AIX, IBM i, Linux, and Windows.

IBM Uses POWER But Doesn't Bother to Say So 
I'm mad at IBM and I'm irritated with myself. Why? I missed something cool about IBM Power Systems, and at the same time, IBM as a company is doing a lousy job of helping guys like me find it. Lousy. Unless IBM's actions are entirely intentional, and if that's the case, well, that's even worse. But I share the blame, so that's why I'm mad and not just bemused. Here's what happened. . . . 
Slow Power Still Nabs 320 Displacements from HP and Oracle in IBM's 2Q 
"We had continued strength this quarter in Power high performance computing solutions. In June, IBM achieved the top speed rating in the world, and we earned three of the top four spots on the TOP500 project which ranks the world’s most powerful computers. We continued our success in competitive displacements in the second quarter, with over 320 displacements that drive over $265 million of business. As you would expect, these came from a combination of HP and Oracle/Sun. This initiative has helped drive our seventeenth consecutive quarter of share gains in Power," Loughridge reported.
Kisco Lets Your IBM i Use Twitter with Release 4 of SNDTWEET 
Kisco Information Systems has announced a new release of its bi-directional interface to the Twitter social networking service. SNDTWEET runs on the IBM i and can be used to post messages through Twitter and accept responses for error messages, status inquiries, and user developed applications.
iManifest EMEA Rolls Toward September Campaign Launch 
iManifest EMEA, a group of IBM partners and independent software vendors who have joined together to promote IBM i, has been busy. After a few false starts that began after the iManifest movement was created an started in Japan in 2009 with full-page newspaper ad, iManifest EMEA now seems to have a concrete plan in place. The basics? Focus the message via a few influential IT and business publications aimed at CIOs in Europe. 
IBM PureSystems Goes to Brazil's ValeCard 
ValeCard -- a GRUPO CEPHAS company spanning several industry sectors including finance, agriculture, real estate, and healthcare in Brazil -- will use a new IBM PureFlex system to streamline its datacenter operations and record keeping. The solution includes the IBM Flex System Enterprise, IBM Flex System Manager, a POWER module p260, four compute nodes x240, two IBM Storwize V7000 systems, a TS3200 tape, four IBM B24 switches, and a PureFlex System 42U rack, using SmartCloud Software for the creation of a private Cloud and iTSM for backup.
Survey Reveals Midrange RFID Use and ROI on the Rise 
CYBRA Corporation, the developer of EdgeMagic Integrated RFID Control Software and MarkMagic Bar Code Labels, RFID Tags, and Electronic Forms Software for IBM midrange systems, has released the findings of their latest customer survey on RFID trends.
 
The survey results show an upward trend in the adoption of RFID technology. CYBRA's first RFID Survey was conducted in 2008, in which only 21 percent of companies stated that they use RFID technology. According to the new survey, 54 percent of organizations are now using, piloting, or already in the process of implementing RFID technology. This is 157 percent increase in just four years. . . .
IBM Intros a New Single Socket PowerLinux Server 
IBM has introduced a new single-socket rack-mount PowerLinux server, the IBM PowerLinux 7R1, to its PowerLinux lineup. Similar to the two-socket version (the 7R2) that IBM rolled out in April, the 3.55 GHz 7R1 will support 8 POWER7 cores and a choice of Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating systems.
Robot/NETWORK Version 11 Adds IBM i Performance Monitoring 
Help/Systems, a solution provider of automated operations, security, and business intelligence software for IBM Power Systems servers running IBM i, has added performance monitoring to version 11 of Robot/NETWORK, its network management solution. Robot/NETWORK’s new Performance Center now displays performance statistics from connected IBM i servers.
